# Screen blockchain payments

Use address screening to assess a sender or recipient, transaction monitoring to review activity over time, and simulation to preview a payment before signing. Choose the check for the decision your application needs to make.

## Place checks in the payment flow

| Decision | Check | Provider options |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Authorize a payment to or from an address | Address risk and counterparty exposure. | [TRM](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#trm), [Chainalysis](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#chainalysis), [Elliptic](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#elliptic). |
| Review suspicious payment activity | Monitoring alerts and investigation tools. | [TRM](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#trm), [Chainalysis](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#chainalysis), [Elliptic](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#elliptic). |
| Show a user what a proposed transaction will do | Transaction simulation and security findings before signing. | [Blockaid](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/payment-screening#blockaid). |
| Enforce an approved address or token restriction | Token permissions or account receive policies. | [Tempo controls](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/compliance-controls). |

Screening provides risk information. Tempo's onchain controls enforce configured rules; connecting the two is your application's responsibility.

## Choose a screening provider

### TRM

[TRM's Tempo coverage](https://www.trmlabs.com/blockchain-coverage/tempo) includes wallet screening, monitoring, tracing, and entity attribution. Use Wallet Screening for address assessments and Transaction Monitoring for ongoing activity. Its [API portal](https://docs.trmlabs.com/api-reference) provides product documentation linked to your account; the public Sanctions API is a different product.

### Chainalysis

[Chainalysis supports](https://www.chainalysis.com/blog/tempo-automatic-token-coverage-march-2026/) Address Screening, KYT monitoring, and Reactor investigations on Tempo, including TIP-20 tokens and transfer memos. For an API integration, [rescreen an address](https://www.chainalysis.com/product/address-screening/) when you need an updated assessment; interface alerts don't refresh an earlier API result.

### Elliptic

[Elliptic's Tempo integration](https://www.elliptic.co/newsroom/elliptic-integrates-with-tempo-the-payments-first-blockchain/) covers address screening, payment monitoring, and cross-chain investigations. Its [analysis API](https://developers.elliptic.co/reference/analysissync) takes a subject, analysis type, and `customer_reference`. Choose the source-of-funds or destination-of-funds direction for your investigation, using [authenticated requests](https://developers.elliptic.co/docs/authentication-1).

## Preview a transaction before signing

Blockaid's [`client.evm.transaction.scan`](https://github.com/blockaid-official/blockaid-client-node/blob/main/src/resources/evm/transaction.ts) previews transaction effects and assesses security risk. Its [chain list](https://github.com/blockaid-official/blockaid-client-node/blob/main/src/resources/evm/evm.ts) includes `tempo` and `tempo-testnet` for individual scans. Set `options: ['simulation', 'validation']` for both outputs; the default requests validation only.

Check `validation.result_type` before presenting a result: `Error` is not a benign assessment. The bulk-scanning chain list doesn't include Tempo, and support for native Tempo batches and sponsored transactions needs confirming with Blockaid. Simulation doesn't assess a recipient's sanctions exposure.

## Connect results to a payment decision

:::steps
### Configure the provider connection

Confirm the product, credentials, Tempo network and asset identifiers, and subject schema for your account.

### Apply a decision policy

Map findings to proceed, review, or decline. Set a maximum result age and explicit handling for unavailable services and errors.

### Record and enforce the decision

Save the assessment, check time, decision, and payment reference together. Keep customer and case details offchain. Apply any onchain permission change through an authorized [token or receive-policy workflow](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/resources/guides/compliance-controls).
:::

A clean assessment doesn't replace customer checks. When accepting funds, [verify the delivered transfer](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/guide/payments/accept-a-payment) before crediting a customer.
