# Tempo Zones

Keep stablecoin balances and account activity in a private ledger connected to Tempo.

[Read the privacy model →](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/privacy)

A public deposit enters a private Zone account through a controlled boundary; the Zone operator can view its ledger.

## Overview

A Zone is a private stablecoin ledger connected to Tempo. Use one when other Tempo users shouldn't see your customers' balances and payments, such as payroll or treasury accounts.

:::warning
Zones is in limited preview. [Contact Tempo](https://tempo.xyz/contact) to discuss access and the deployment your application needs.
:::

Each Zone runs its own network. Its portal (`ZonePortal`) on Tempo holds the backing assets. Each account reads only its own balances and activity. The operator can read the whole ledger, and deposit and withdrawal amounts stay public. Read [Privacy](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/privacy) before you choose a deployment.

With a Zone, your application can:

* **Fund Private Accounts:** Deposit stablecoins from Tempo into an account in the Zone.
* **Read Private Activity:** Read an account's balances and transfers with its authorization token.
* **Withdraw to Tempo:** Return funds to a Tempo address, or call a contract on Tempo.

The current permissioned runtime moves tokens only through deposits and withdrawals. It disables general TIP-20 transfers and user contract deployment. Confirm the assets, signing tools, read access, and funding rules with the operator. Execution-proof enforcement depends on the deployed verifier and network configuration, as [proving and settlement](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/protocol/zones/proving) describes.

## Start Building

Read the Build pages in order. Each page uses the connection and client from the pages before it.

[Connect to a Zone](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/connect): Get deployment details and sign the authorization token.

[Client Setup](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/examples): Configure the Zone chain and Wagmi client the guides import.

[Deposit Into a Zone](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/deposit): Fund a private account through the portal on Tempo.

[Balances and Activity](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/balances): Read the account's balances and filtered history.

[Withdraw From a Zone](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/zones/withdraw): Return funds to Tempo and track delivery.

To try these flows with test funds, use the [Testnet Sandbox](https://tempo.xyz/developers/docs/guide/private-zones). It runs an earlier deployment with different interfaces. Use its guides only with the sandbox.
