Privacy is live on Tempo
Tempo Zones let enterprises keep customer stablecoin balances and payments private, with built-in compliance controls and full access to Tempo's global liquidity. Starting today, Zones are generally available for enterprises. Deel is the first to use a Zone in production, paying contractors around the world without revealing who gets paid or how much. If you're interested in a Zone for your business, reach out.
Here’s why Zones work for enterprises:
-
Streamlined integration. Enterprises can integrate with Tempo once and then choose which flows are public or private. Privy and Bridge support Tempo Zones natively, and Privy’s wallet infrastructure lets businesses add Zones seamlessly through familiar APIs.
-
Compliance. Zone operators decide who can participate, which assets are allowed, and how incoming funds are screened. Issuer policies carry into every Zone automatically. Teams keep the records they need for reconciliation, customer support, and reporting.
-
Liquidity. Private accounts reach global liquidity on Tempo, including stablecoin swaps, FX, ramps, card programs, and yield. Since Zones are a native feature of Tempo, every smart contract and protocol that works on Tempo also works with private balances on a Zone.
What's private, what's public
Zones give enterprises the privacy they expect from a bank. Nothing inside a Zone is visible to the public. The Zone operator, however, can see activity inside a Zone and can pause transfers to meet compliance requirements. Here’s an overview of what is public and private:
| Action | Public | Private |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit into a Zone | Token, amount, sender | Recipient |
| Transfers in a Zone | Nothing | Sender, recipient, amount |
| Balances in a Zone | Nothing | Balance (visible only to the account holder and operator) |
| Withdrawal from a Zone | Amount, recipient | Sender |
| Interact with Earn / DeFi | Deposit, withdrawal, amount | Who owns the position |
Deel: private contractor pay and earn with stablecoins
Deel runs payroll for 40,000+ businesses across 150 countries. In June, they launched a stablecoin wallet on Tempo, giving contractors in markets with volatile local currencies, like Argentina, a dollar-backed balance they can hold and earn on.
Tempo and Privy worked together to bring Deel’s Zone into production, integrating Zones natively with Privy’s APIs to keep contractor wallets private. Deel's treasury deposit into its Zone is visible on Tempo, but which contractors are paid, how much each receives, and what they hold are not. Contractors see their own balances in Deel, and Deel keeps the access it needs for reconciliation and audit.
“Workers' financial data should be private by default. Sensitive information such as salaries, balances, and payout history doesn't belong on a public ledger,” said Thierry Edde, Head of Crypto at Deel. “Tempo Zones give us that privacy without sacrificing what contractors actually care about: keeping their earnings stable, growing their balance, and getting paid fast. That's the infrastructure global payroll should be built on.”
"Privacy is built into Tempo as a native capability, so businesses can keep sensitive financial information confidential while continuing to transact using stablecoins," said Dan Romero, Chief Business Officer at Tempo. "Deel is the first enterprise to put Zones into production, bringing privacy to contractor payouts without giving up access to the rest of the network."
