DoorDash, one of the world’s largest local commerce platforms, is building stablecoin-powered payment infrastructure on Tempo for its marketplace of merchants, Dashers, and consumers across 40+ countries. Read the full customer story →

Every DoorDash transaction involves at least three parties: a consumer paying for an order, a merchant receiving revenue, and a Dasher earning income for fulfilling the delivery. Multiply that across more than 40 countries, each with different payment rails, compliance requirements, and settlement timelines, and the complexity of running global payments at DoorDash’s scale becomes clear.

DoorDash was founded in 2013 with a mission to empower local economies. Through its marketplace and acquisitions like Wolt and Deliveroo, DoorDash now connects consumers, merchants, and delivery workers across more than 40 countries. Now, DoorDash is partnering with Tempo to bring stablecoin settlement to its global payment operations.

DoorDash and Tempo

DoorDash and Tempo are working together to bring stablecoin-powered payments to the flows where they deliver the most immediate value: faster payouts for merchants and Dashers, lower costs on cross-border transactions, and simpler reconciliation across dozens of markets.

DoorDash’s marketplace creates payment complexity that most companies never encounter. A consumer modifies an order after checkout. A refund needs to process in minutes. A chargeback takes weeks and costs more than the transaction it disputes. Each of these flows adds cost and friction that compounds across millions of transactions globally. Stablecoins settle in minutes, around the clock, reducing the intermediaries and delays at every step.

“There’s real promise with stablecoins transforming financial infrastructure, not just in America, but globally,” said Andy Fang, co-founder of DoorDash. “We want to be a proactive participant and not just passive.”

Why Tempo

Tempo is purpose-built for institutional payments. For a use case like multi-party marketplace payouts across dozens of countries, several capabilities made the difference.

Sub-second finality means payouts to merchants and Dashers settle in under a second with deterministic confirmation. Fixed $0.001 fees make cost predictable at millions-of-transactions scale. Dedicated payment lanes guarantee that payout throughput is never affected by other network activity. And ISO 20022-compatible memo fields support the structured reconciliation workflows that a global treasury operation requires.

“If we can get merchants and Dashers their money faster, and do that in a way that’s affordable for them, that’s a no-brainer for the entire ecosystem,” Fang said.

What this means

DoorDash is among the first enterprises building on Tempo alongside companies like Shopify, Stripe, and others bringing stablecoin payment flows into production. For marketplace operators and platforms running multi-party payments across borders, DoorDash’s partnership with Tempo signals where global payout infrastructure is heading.
