We believe access to credit should be determined by your potential, not just your paperwork.

The challenge
El Dorado's customers could hold and move digital dollars, but access to credit was still missing. People who earn a living or run a business without formal income records can struggle to qualify for a bank loan. El Dorado wanted to make borrowing part of its wallet experience.
The team had considered collateralized lending. In a conversation with Tala founder and CEO Shivani Siroya, Guillermo Goncalvez explained why it fell short: customers would have to lock up more money than they could borrow. El Dorado wanted to give them additional purchasing power, with credit based on their ability to repay.
Tala brings lending into the wallet
El Dorado partnered with Tala to offer embedded credit for users and businesses. The rollout will start with eligible customers in Bolivia, with more Latin American markets planned.
Tala uses behavioral and alternative signals to assess borrowers whose financial activity may not appear in conventional credit records. It handles underwriting, provides the capital, and takes on the credit risk. El Dorado brings the wallet and the relationships it has built with its customers.
El Dorado can add credit to its app without building a lending operation, while Tala can reach borrowers through a service they already use.
Stablecoin loans on Tempo
At launch, eligible customers will see a pre-qualified offer in their El Dorado wallet. They will be able to choose an available loan amount, duration, and repayment date without pledging crypto as collateral.
Tala will send USDT directly to the customer's El Dorado wallet on Tempo. Repayments will return to Tala on the same network. Tempo provides near-instant settlement for both onchain payment flows.
With onchain credit, customers will receive and repay loans inside the wallet they already use.
Expanding beyond business payments
The credit partnership extends El Dorado's work with Tempo. In June 2026, the company launched El Dorado Business, combining stablecoin funding, multisig payment approvals, and bank payment options in one account.
Businesses can fund from other chains, consolidate stablecoins on Tempo, and pay suppliers or withdraw through supported banking rails. Tempo settles the onchain leg; banking and payment providers handle conversion and bank delivery.
Additional funding and withdrawal connections and a broader migration of El Dorado's consumer wallet and P2P activity remain expansion opportunities. Business payments are live on Tempo; credit is the next step in that relationship.
