Tempo will adopt the Commonware Library and become a core contributor to its ongoing development. We’re also leading a $25 million strategic investment round in Commonware to advance our shared vision of high-performance, reliable infrastructure for every builder.
This is a great advancement for Tempo, for a few reasons:
- We can focus on shipping key payments features and optimizing Tempo, instead of reinventing the consensus wheel. This will enable us to ship more, faster.
- Commonware will enable us to get to <250ms finality on a globally distributed permissionless payments system. This will come via multiple innovations in consensus, cryptography, and networking.
- Tempo will accelerate the maturation of the Commonware Library, stress testing its performance and reliability for real-world usage.
We were first impressed by the Commonware team’s approach to building consensus algorithms as a library, and we continue to be impressed by their continuous progress on the frontier of distributed systems.
Read more here, but this is the start of a long-term collaboration between our two teams, focused on speed, simplicity, and open infrastructure. If you’re building at the frontier, reach out to join@tempo.xyz or commonware.xyz.
